If you think you can, you can. This is the statement that kept our founders going! With a rough start in 1971, a few people banded together with only $2,200 to start Senior Life Services of Morgan County. The group consisted of visionaries, believers, and hard workers to start funding and raise state funds to open a place to help local seniors. The program grew over the years to not only include socialization but to start in-home care programs, nutritional food options, transportation and simply lived by people helping people. Seniors remain active participating in local fairs and even the Senior Olympics as well as enjoy group trips that are local and afar. Our seniors meet up to celebrate birthdays, holidays, play bingo, enjoy puzzles, card games, and so much more. Our hope was and will always be to bring our county together.
From our first location in 1971 that was 10 by 10 feet in a basement that some referred to as a cubicle (but was wildly successful) bringing seniors inside and outside to enjoy activities, bowling leagues, crafts, making apple butter in Paw Paw, and so much more, our services and centers have grown with county wide services and will always include a great group of people who love to come together to have amazing times! As we grew in Berkeley Springs those in Paw Paw kept meeting and joining together wherever they could including the old post office and eventually got enough funds for our permanent Nutrition Site. We look forward to the future as we keep our doors open wide for all senior citizens of Morgan County to include future generations.
November 26th, 1971 – Senior Life Services Morgan County, Inc. (Morgan County Commission on Aging – original name) came to be.
February 28th, 1972 – The Senior Stop opened its doors in the basement of the old courthouse.
Next – Moved to Open Doors which was on the second floor of the Roman Bath House.
1984 – Moved to the old schoolhouse on Green St.
2003 – Partnered with Mountaineer Community Health Center to open Paw Paw Nutrition Site.
2012 – Moved to our permanent location on Sand Mine (where we are still located today.)
Today: Over 25% of Morgan County population is 55 or better!
By 2030: Over 30% of Morgan County population will be 55 or better!
2071: Our 100 year celebration!
